Film Poster Deconstruction

The poster for 28 Days Later has a very simple layout but uses an extremely bright background colour; the images are very simple but delivers the message clearly. The image used of the silhouette is very simple but very effective because of the background colour which is blood red this also makes the image of the eyes stand out more than the rest on the poster helping to give the poster a very dominating look. The image behind the title is very recognisable because it is the biohazard symbol, a biological hazard or biohazard is an organism, or substance derived from an organism, which poses a threat to (primarily) human health. This can include medical waste or samples of a microorganism, virus or toxin (from a biological source) that can impact human health. It can also include substances harmful to animals. The font that they used is very bold and the colour choice brings it out nicely, the font that they used is the arial font except that they added effects to it, and the size of the font helps to catch the viewers attention, the tagline is very small in comparison to the rest of the writing on the poster but when read gives out a very interesting meaning. The headline though is not very easy to read as the writing is tiny and does not match the rest of the writing. They have also used extreme close up for the eye so that the viewer will feel tense and anxious.

The poster for The Broken is to me is very simple but quite frightening and disturbing that is because they have taken an image of the lead actress and did some very extreme looking editing, the colour choice for the background helps to tie in the whole poster together because the black of her coat goes well with the black part of the background and the paleness of her skin does the same for the whitish grey background the title is written in bold font with a greyish white colour and has been made to look slightly blurry, the actresses name has also been added to let the viewer know who will be in the film, and the tagline is very simple and to the point and is written in black so that it will stand out in the background. The headline is also trying to entice the viewer into wanting to find out more about the latest films that has the same genre that would be coming out soon. They have used a close up shot for the image of the woman.

The poster for The Children is pretty much frightening and extremely disturbing, because when you see the word children in a film title you would expect it to be a comedy or drama not a horror. When viewing the poster you obviously see an extreme close up of a child’s doll which has been mutilated because of the blood and has a porcelain look about it because of the weird scratched look, the font used is bold and easy to read the tagline is quite long but very effective, the choice of colours contrasts well with the image.
